About Us
The Criminal Justice Data Training Initiative (CJDTI) is a program that creates unique undergraduate research opportunities and a meaningful impact on the local community. Through hands-on experience with criminal justice data, students develop both technical skills and a contextual understanding of how data science can improve existing issues within the criminal justice system. The initiative works in collaboration with local agencies, including the Charlottesville Police Department and the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, to analyze data and support the Evidence Based Decision Making team (EBDM). We are housed within the UVA School of Data Science and our start-up funding was generously provided by The Jefferson Trust.
